Jacksonville robotics team sets eyes on World Championship, clean energyHanna Holthaus
Florida Times-Union City Council recently received a unique pitch as a push for renewable energy in Jacksonville: a hydroelectric generator, plated in cast iron, and attached to the posts on major piers with the ability to power homes along the coast. Speaking softly and stretching toward the microphone on his tip-toes, 12-year-old John Stewart brought the group’s model forward – a colorful, mini, functioning prototype – made of Legos. “[The generator] will be 100% renewable and it’ll be reliable and it will collect all the energy, or the potential energy, from the waves,” Stewart told the Times-Union. Stewart is one of seven middle schoolers on the Shiva Robotics Academy First Lego League team. They call themselves the “EngiNerds.” |
When you walk into the Academy there are all different ways a student can learn. Immediately, students grab their name tags and scan a QR code. There is also a personalized robot where a student can program it to dance, talk, and project a screen.
Sasha Steenson, a robotics student, said Shiva Academy has helped shape her future and now she wants to become a biochemical engineer. Link :https://www.news4jax.com/news/local/2019/12/12/jacksonville-schools-teaches-high-demand-skills/ |
