In this class, the team made some useful modifications to the SPIKE Prime Advanced Driving Base. The color sensors were removed, which freed up 2 of the ports for other sensors and motors. An ultrasonic distance sensor was added to the front of the robot, which became the eyes of the robot's face (it has a face now). The robot got some turning skis, which should make it more stable and reliable when turning and moving in straight lines. Also, they modified one of the attachments so that it can hold energy units better.

Today was the first regular class after the team participated in their first practice tournament. The practice tournament was a valuable experience for the team, and they made a lot of progress with the missions, while also getting some useful feedback from the judges.
In response to that feedback, today we worked heavily on researching solar energy to develop our project. The team learned a great amount about how the technology works, and its shortcomings. They decided to focus on reducing the waste associated with solar energy, and in the future will investigate battery technology and solar cell production with help from a solar expert.

They found the cost of different materials that could be used on our project, and weighted the pros and cons of each. After looking at costs and longevity, the team decided on using concrete and cast-iron. some team members were also researching into smaller problems and some were building 3D-models of our project. For a team-building activity, the team formed a human knot and were successfully able to unit themselves after just a couple of tries!
Following this activity, the team switched to working on the robot. Part of the team was making our robot sturdy, and the other part of the team was coding the robot to use the gyro sensor.

We connected our main attachment to our robot, but still have to make it more sturdy and reinforce it. During practice Trinity and Claire also coded the robot to complete part of the hydro electric dam mission!

Last practice, the team thought that when deforesting to build a dam, companies leave the trees under the water. They found that when trees decompose they release methane which is worse than carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Today, the team found that companies clear out any trees that could fall onto the dams, for safety precautions. After finding this out, the team continued researching about hydro-electric energy, coming up with a clever way of using water to create electricity. The solution would use a source of water that is always moving, and wouldn't be too far off the coast.

On the robot, the team continued to build the robot, finding up the wall around it and a crucial attachment for it. This attachment uses two motors and will assist in completing many of the missions on the table.

As a core values and team building activity, the team was given 7 minutes to flip a tarp that they were standing on, without stepping off of it. Astonishingly, the team finished in only 2 minutes, quickly learning form their first mistake. We then played outside and had lots of fun.

To end off practice, each team member presented what they did today in a video.
